Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When is the deadline to audition?

All applications must be submitted complete with audition video no later than Monday, March 1 at 11:59PM

Is the ensemble meeting in person?

Yes, this is currently the only ChiMOP ensemble meeting in person. A venue will be determined once participants are registered, waivers of understanding will be signed by all participants, and all safety protocols will be followed.

What happens if I cannot attend one of the rehearsals?

We expect commitment from all participants meaning these rehearsals should be a priority in your schedule. However we understand there may be times due to illness or other serious or last minute circumstances where it is not possible to attend in which case it is therefore expected that you immediately notify your ensemble coach as well as other musicians in the ensemble and make arrangements to reschedule.

How much is the artist stipend for each musician?

Payment may vary depending on the type of performance. Most performances will pay $50 per musician, some may offer more, and some may ask you to volunteer your time though that is up to you.

Is there help available for the application process?

If you need any help or guidance with either the essay questions or the audition requirements, send an email to andrea@chimop.org and explain in what specific way you need help.

If I haven’t been in a ChiMOP program (MLYO, SYO, ChiMOP Online, Hamilton, Decatur, etc.), can I still apply?

No. The Misbin Ambassador Ensemble is meant to represent the work and values of the ChiMOP organization. If you are interested in this opportunity in the future, consider signing up for our Summer Youth Orchestra or contact us about other opportunities that will allow you to be eligible next year or beyond.

What level of playing do I need to participate in this ensemble?

We expect the highest level of musicianship and technique you are capable of offering. Please review the audition requirements, try your best, and play confidently. We will accept the submissions reflecting the most determination and potential.

What are my responsibilities for this ensemble?

Attend all rehearsals and performances, communicate clearly and promptly with your ensemble coach and fellow musicians, practice everyday outside of rehearsal, come to all rehearsals prepared, and have a positive attitude and growth mindset.

What if I turn 19 while I am in the ensemble?

As long as you are 18 or under on March 1, 2021, you are eligible to audition and participate for the duration of the season.

When are the rehearsal dates and times?

The rehearsal schedule will be based on the availability of the participating musicians with the understanding that this is expected to be a priority. The rehearsal season will be 12 weeks although there may be additional performance opportunities beyond that.

Where and when will I have my on camera interview?

All candidates who submit applications and audition materials will be contacted by our staff notifying that you are either not ready to be considered at this time or you will be asked to schedule an interview via Zoom with us as a final audition round. Interview questions will be sent at that time.

Is there a specific instrumentation you are looking for?

No! This may be the most unique feature of the Misbin Ambassador Ensemble. We will select participants based on their musicianship and commitment to self improvement and not to fulfill a specific instrumentation requirement. All repertoire will be specifically selected, arranged, or composed for this ensemble.
